The Best Family Games for Rainy Days
It’s been raining incessantly on the East Coast this Spring.
While rainy days can be cozy, a certain malaise sets in after hours of television.
Family games have come a LONG way and some of them are great fun!
I’m going to share some family games that my family has truly enjoyed and a few that we want to try.
1. Sneaky Snacky Squirrel Game (3 and up)
This family game is so fun for little ones because it involves no reading, writing, or math.
HOW TO PLAY:
Spin the spinner, pick up the matching acorn with your Squirrel Squeezer, and place it in your log. Collect one acorn of each color first and you win!
There are, of course, ways to lose a turn or an acorn, too.
It’s simple, colorful, and oh-so-cute.

2. Don’t Break the Ice! (3 and up)
If you have a little one who liked to hammer and bang, this game is for you!
How to Play:
The idea is for kids is to keep Phillip the Penguin on top of the ice, but as the game goes on, the ice blocks start falling. One wrong block and down he goes!
This always gets kids laughing and working together.
3. The Floor is Lava (ages 5 and up)
Those of us of a certain age remember playing this game while jumping on couches and coffee tables.
The updated version is a lot easier on the furniture-unless you want to up the ante!
The game can be played indoors or out and uses colored tiles to let players know where they can safely plant their feet.
It comes with a spinner and over 25 challenge cards, with the goal of being so bereft of safe tiles that you fall into the “LAVA”!
4. Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza (ages 5 & up)
While this is best for kids 5 and up, some 3 and 4 year olds may be able to get in on it, too.
Simply go around the table saying these five words, in order, until the card you put down matches the word you’ve said.
Once that happens, you must be the fastest to slap your hand on the cards-or you lose out!
It’s a fast paced game that brings a lot of laughter!
5. Exploding Kittens (7 and up)
Even if you adore cats like I do, this game will make you laugh until you cry.
Fun for kids and adults alike, you spend the game dodging exploding kittens in hilarious ways.
It was originally sold on Kickstarter and became a sensation.
It’s a simple task, but you’ll find yourself wondering how they came up with this stuff (in the best way).
6. Yahtzee (7 and up)https://amzn.to/3yTTlBz
I couldn’t leave this one out!
The box says that this game is for kids 8 and up, but we have played it with my 7 year old for at least a year.
As with everything, it depends on your kid.
It’s a game of mostly chance and a little bit of skill.
Throw the dice, find patterns suggested on your game card, try to get the most points, and win!
Have Fun!
Rainy days don’t have to drive you crazy.
I hope you find some connection and laughter with these family games.
Our family has certainly loved these over the years!
